A Victorian stone reredos has been found behind panelling in All Saints church in Windsor, apparently designed by author Thomas Hardy – full story here. Dating to the 1860s, the reredos in Windsor is contemporary with the High Altar reredos at St Cuthbert’s which was donated in 1867 to the church by the Somerset Freemasons. The hidden heritage of the reredos sculptures will finally be explored this summer with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the Pilgrim Trust, the Church Buildings Council and the Maltwood Fund (Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society). With this funding we will be able to digitise the collection of broken sculpture and put it online.… Continue reading Funding secured
