Medieval music, St Cuthbert’s church

Sunday 11th September

Special Sunday Service: Sunday 10.00-11.00am

Swan Singers performances: Sunday 2.00-2.20pm and 3.00-3.30pm

Organ conservator’s talk: Sunday 2.20-2.30pm

The weekly Sunday service will be given a medieval flavour to celebrate the reredos. Jerry Sampson, project cataloguer and Cathedral Archaeologist, will talk about what it was like to worship in the medieval church.

Between Hidden Histories tours, the Swan Singers will perform music from the 14th and 15th centuries, including anthems by Byrd and Gibbons. There will be music from the same period played on an organ which is a meticulously researched reconstruction of an instrument built in around 1540, plus a brief talk by the specialist conservator responsible for its reconstruction, Dominic Gwynn.
